Jökulsárlón was the main attraction on our “must see” list, and the reason for driving 250 miles away from Reykjavik. After being on the road all day we were anxious to finally get to our destination. It was raining pretty hard and we hadn’t seen anything but desolate landscape for about an hour. As we rounded a corner and started heading up a hill, we could see glowing blue spots ahead of us peeking out over the horizon. And after pulling up the hill we could see the entire glacier lagoon.
Words cannot describe and pictures cannot do justice to this true natural wonder. It was even more surreal in the mist and fog from the rain.
We were running up and down the edge of the lagoon in the rain, trying to see it from every angle. Truly amazing and well worth the long trip.
